The stainless steel 310/310S is widely used in high-temperature implementations. The grade 310 310S is commonly not used for corrosive media environments, despite its superior resistance to corrosion because it consists of the high content of chromium and nickel. Since the alloy lacks molybdenum, it has a low resistance to pitting.
In intermittent service in air up to 1035°C, grades 310/310S have superior oxidation resistance, and in continuous service up to 1050°C. The grades are corrosion, sulphidation, and carburization immune.
Stainless steel 310s pipe fittings has a lower carbon content, making it less vulnerable to embrittlement and sensitization in operation. These steels can be used in reducing sulphur atmospheres containing H2S due to their high chromium and medium nickel content.
They are commonly used in moderately carburizing conditions, such as those used in petrochemical plants. Other heat-resistant alloys should be chosen for more extreme carburizing environments. Since it suffers from thermal shock, Grade 310 is not recommended for repeated liquid quenching. Because of its hardness and low magnetic permeability, the grade is commonly used in cryogenic applications.
Stainless Steel 310S Pipe Fittings are high-temperature, long-lasting fittings that are easy to weld and ductile. They’re well-known for their corrosion resistance, especially in chemical and ore processing units where aqueous corrosion and sulphidation are a problem.
