These carbon steel pipes have today found its usability in various applications like high-pressure application, paper % pulp industries, nuclear power plants, oil & gas industry, pipelines, dairy & food processing industries, chemical refinery, water pipeline, etc. API 5L specification is covering welded and seamless steel line pipes. It is including standard weight and extra-strong threaded line pipe, extra-strong plain-end. Moreover it too includes normal weight plain-end, extra-strong end pipe special plain-end, spigot and bell and through the flow line pipes.
The aim of API5L specification is to offer the standard for the pipe appropriate for various areas like in the water & oil, conveying gas and natural gas plants. Carbon steel pipes are actually steel pipes with the content of carbon up to 2.1%. According to AISI standards, CS pipes are said to be as it is when no content is specified for elements like molybdenum, niobium, chromium, titanium, zirconium, vanadium, tungsten, etc. Also, it is said to be a CS pipe when content specified for the compounds doesn’t exceed the provided percentage like for copper its 0.60, manganese 1.65% and silicon 0.60.
These Carbon steel X42, X52, X60, X65 & X70 pipes are subjected to testing for the assurance of its quality. Few tests conducted on pipes are corrosion test, tensile test, and Charpy impact test. Also, the other tests like dye penetrant test, PMI test, ferrite check, ultrasonic test, and hardiness check are done. Therefore no poor quality of pipes is shipped to the clientele. The reports provided to the buyers are MTC as per EN10204/3.1b, radiography test report, third party test report etc.
